About this Austin Healey 100/6
1957 Austin-Healey 100/6 BN4 – Matching Numbers, Fully Restored
Stunning Ice Blue over Old English White | Documented Nut & Bolt Restoration | Mille Miglia Eligible | ULEZ & Tax Exempt
The Austin-Healey 100/6 (BN4), introduced in 1956, marked a major evolution from the earlier 100/4, ushering in the era of the legendary “Big Healeys.” With its longer wheelbase, refined lines, and the introduction of the powerful 2.6-litre straight-six engine, the 100/6 delivered a blend of style, sophistication, and performance that firmly established Healey as a cornerstone of British sports car heritage.
This particular example — Chassis No. BN4-LO/45939 and Engine No. 1C/45939 — is a matching-numbers, left-hand drive, four-seater model. According to its British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, it was built at Longbridge on 13th August 1957 and dispatched for export to Düsseldorf, Germany, originally ordered by a U.S. Army officer who later shipped the car home to the United States.
Provenance & Restoration
After spending over three decades in Indiana, USA, the car was acquired from its long-term American owner in October 2013 and imported into the UK in 2014. The recorded mileage at that time was a genuine 34,000 miles, verified on its U.S. Title Certificate.
Upon arrival, it underwent a complete body-off, nut-and-bolt restoration, meticulously documented with a photo album of over 130 images charting the process from start to finish.
The car was refinished in its original colour scheme of Healey Ice Blue Metallic over Old English White – a timeless combination that beautifully complements its elegant lines. The paintwork, panel fit, and detailing are all exceptional. The underside was stripped, rust-treated, and stone-chip protected before being painted in matching Ice Blue. Additional sound-deadening was installed to enhance cabin comfort.
Mechanical Specification
The original 2.6-litre, 6-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive remain with the car, both fully rebuilt during restoration. Engine work included:
Re-bore with new pistons and bearings
Skimmed cylinder head with hardened valve seats for unleaded fuel
New clutch, water pump, oil pump, and timing chain
New Armstrong shock absorbers (all round)
Fully rebuilt drum brakes with servo assistance
New fuel tank and wiring loom
Electronic ignition, electric cooling fan, and alternator conversion
LED daytime running lights (dual-function indicators) and upgraded rear indicators
Upgraded anti-roll bar and fully detailed engine bay
In April 2024, the gearbox was rebuilt by Hardy Engineering, and the overdrive functions perfectly. Additional works were carried out by Enginuity, London, including a new brake master cylinder and polyurethane front wishbone bushes.
The car has now covered just over 5,000 miles since restoration, giving a total indicated mileage of around 39,000 miles from new.
Road Use & Classification
This Austin-Healey is registered as a Historic Vehicle, making it:
Road tax free
MOT exempt
ULEZ exempt
It remains in superb mechanical and cosmetic condition and is ready for immediate use. Thanks to its 1957 build date, the car is also eligible for entry into the Mille Miglia — a testament to its historical and collector significance.
Summary
