About this Triumph TR6

According to the BMIHT Heritage Certificate, this LHD 1971 Triumph TR6 - Chassis No: CC/67474-L was built on 13th July 1971 and was registered on 1st August 1971 with the Coventry registration mark AHP 307K as a Personal Export Delivery before being despatched on 10th September 1971 to British Leyland Motors in Newark, New Jersey, USA.

When the car was built, it was finished in Damson with a Black interior and Black Soft Top and the following factory options are shown on the Heritage Certificate: Heater, Laminated Windscreen, Black Tonneau Cover, USA/Canada specification lights, 185 x 15 Goodyear Tyres, Anti-Smog Engine, Jack, Tool Kit Roll and Spare Wheel.

The car was first registered in California in 1971 with the number plate 187 VML, but unfortunately nothing is known of its early history in the USA, although it was repainted in a Burgundy Red Metallic before it was sold by its American owner in Rialto, California and imported to the UK in the early 1990's. The car remained in storage here in the UK for almost 30 years whilst awaiting restoration/re-commissioning and at some point the original US specification engine was removed and it was fitted with a UK specification 125bhp Fuel injected Engine - CR3647HE and 'J' Type Overdrive Gearbox, but we do not know when.

It was still on its California number plates until we purchased the car from the owners in July 2020 and after authentication by the TR Club and the BMIHT Heritage Certificate, it was re-registered by the DVLA it on its original Coventry number plate AHP 307K which was a great result!

We re-commissioned the car to the total of just over £3,000 and works included replacing the old original worn vinyl seats with a pair of Mazda MX5 Black Cloth trimmed seats, fitted a new set of Black carpets and a new Black Vinyl Soft Top, fitted a brand new set of Yokohama 195/65/15 Tyres and additional works were carried out for us by TR specialist Enginuity totalling just over £2,000 which included a new Unleaded Metering Unit and new non-return valve, new fuel filter and fuel lines, new Crankshaft Thrust Washers, a new universal joints, trailing arm brackets, new Clutch Master Cylinder and Slave cylinder, a full service and full tune.

We sold the car to a local resident in Kew in April 2021 and he has covered just over 3,000 trouble-free miles in the car since and has thoroughly enjoyed it, but he has now bought another fully restored TR6 from us, so we are delighted to have it back in for sale.

It is in rust free condition as you would expect for a Californian car and it really does drive beautifully. The paintwork is showing its age a little now, but it is still very presentable and being a LHD car it will make a great car for touring on the continent next year!

We are just in the process of preparing the car for sale and it will be given a pre-sales service and a new MOT and will come with our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty.
