About this Triumph TR6
DEPOSIT TAKEN: 12/11/2022
The Triumph TR6 was officially introduced in January 1969 and styling was by Karmann of Germany. Triumph Motor Cars had a limited budget for the development of the TR6, and while the TR6 looked drastically different from the previous Michelotti styled TR4 and TR5, it had the same chassis, the TR5 2.5 Fi Engine engine, running gear, doors, windshield, and much of the body tub were taken directly from the TR250/TR5 models. The last TR6 was produced on the 20th of July of 1976. The Triumph TR6 evolved by route of the Michelotti-styled TR4 including the TR4A’s independent rear suspension, then taking over the short-lived TR5/TR250’s smooth fuel-injected 2.5-litre six cylinder engine. It all sat in a body shell reworked on a tight budget by Karmann, with an effective nose and tail face-lift; the centre section was unchanged. The TR6 isn’t the finest-handling sports car of its era, but many claim that it’s faster than an E-type on the wiggly bits and a total of 94,619 TR6's were built 8,370 RHD cars finding homes in the UK before production ended in July 1976.
According to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, this lovely Triumph TR6 150bhp - Chassis No: CF/7049-U and Engine No: CF/7240-UE is a matching number's car and was built in Coventry on 26th March 1973 and shipped to British Leyland Motors in San Francisco, California on 27th April 1973.
It was originally an American specification car in LHD form when built and came with the following factory options: Heater, Inertia Reel Seat Belts, Laminated Windscreen, Black Tonneau Cover, Michelin Red Band Tyres, MPH Speedometer, Jack, Tool Roll and Spare Wheel. Imported to the UK in 1990 and first registered here on 12th October 1990, it underwent a restoration and conversion to RHD by TR Bitz in Warrington, Cheshire who also repainted the car in Pimento Red and rebuilt the Engine and fitted a new Fuel Injection system bringing it up to UK 150bhp specification.
Since it was imported in 1990, it has only had 6 former keepers in 32 years with the last owner having bought the car in June 2018. Unfortunately, the history file only dates back to 1999, but it has had almost £9,000 spent on the car by the last owner including: a new Aluminium Fuel Tank, Bosch Fuel Pump conversion, lots of new trim parts, Stella Lux LED H4 Bulb upgrade + LED dash lights, a new Black Vinyl Hood, 5 new Tyres, a new Battery, new Windscreen, new 'unleaded Metering Unit', new injectors and pipework, new Dampers, new Water Pump +Cooling System hoses, new Magnecor ignition leads plus an uprated Sports Coil and a new DAB Classic Radio.
Having originally come from sunny California, this was and is a totally rust-free car with a superb Chassis and Body. It has without doubt been repainted at some stage in the last 20 years as the paintwork is excellent, the chrome-work and interior trim with its original black vinyl seats are also in lovely condition and the car car drives superbly. It is showing 77,995 miles on the speedometer, but we are unable to confirm this as its original mileage from new, but we are of the opinion that this is correct.
The car was MOT'd on 26th May 2022 and upon sale it will be given a pre-sales service and come with our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty which can be upgraded and extended at additional cost if required.
Car on display @ our showrooms in Mortlake, South west London.
