About this Triumph TR3A
In 1957 the Triumph TR3 was updated with the 'face-lifted' model which is commonly referred to as the Triumph TR3A but not badged as such.
It was a minor update from the TR3 with a new wider front grill, exterior door handles and a lockable boot handle. Total production of the TR3A between 1957 and 1962 was 58,236 making it the third best-selling TR after the TR6 and TR7 and it is estimated that only 9,500 of the original 58,000 built survive today.
The TR3 was also the first production car to include front disc brakes as standard and was known for its superior braking ability, making it a real Rally Car favourite.
This lovely TRIUMPH TR3A - Chassis No: TS/30352-0 and Engine No: TS/30838-E is an original UK specification 'Matching Numbers' car and was built on 24th April 1958 in Canley, Coventry and is one of only 1,896 RHD cars produced. It was sold new by Triumph dealer Rossleigh Limited in Edinburgh and was first registered in Fife in May 1958 with the number plate TSP 838 which it still wears today!
Unfortunately, little is known of its early life until TRGB purchased the car in the mid 1980's and they subsequently sold the car in April 1988 as a restoration project to a Mr David Walsh of Hastings in East Sussex. He commenced a complete 'body-off chassis' nut and bolt rebuild over the following 5 years and it was finally finished in July 1993. The car was driven for just over 3,000 miles by Mr Walsh before he sold it on to a Mr John Duffin of Bexhill on Sea in 1994. Mr Duffin owned the car for 10 years carrying out further works on the car and he covered a further 7,000 miles in the car before eventually selling it in 2004.
It has had 3 further owners since then with the current owner having purchased the car in December 2014. During his ownership it has been regularly serviced by TR specialist Enginuity in London who have also fitted a reconditioned 'A' Type Overdrive unit. It has now covered circa 27,000 miles since it was rebuilt and it comes with a host of spare parts including its original Steering wheel and is finished in Signal Red with Black vinyl trim piped in White, a Black Vinyl Soft Top, full Black vinyl Tonneau cover, Side screens, wooden Mota-Lita Steering Wheel, its original and rebuilt 1991cc Engine, 4 Speed Gearbox with Overdrive and is sitting on a set of Stove enamelled Wire Wheels with excellent Firestone Tyres.
This car really is in exceptional condition and it is featured in Classic Car Weekly (24/11/2021) with a Road Test Report describing how good this car really is!
The car is clear on all HPi registers and upon sale it will come with a new MOT and pre-sales service + our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty.
Car on display @ our showrooms in Mortlake, SW London.
