About this SEAT 600
The SEAT 600 was a 2-Door Saloon City car made in Spain by SEAT from 27 May 1957 to 3 August 1973 and built under license from Fiat on the original Italian Fiat 600, designed by Dante Giacosa. The Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo S.A., branded as SEAT, was born in 1950 as a joint venture between the Spanish state holding agency 'National Institute of Industry', six Spanish banks and Fiat in Italy.
Almost all SEAT models up to 1982 were Fiat-based cars built under license and SEAT did produce their own four-door version in Spain known as the SEAT 800 which is now considered a real Spanish icon!
Measuring only 3.322 m (10.90 ft) long, the 600 was launched in 1957 at an initial price of 65,000 pesetas without taxes and SEAT manufactured 797,319 600's –and 18,200 SEAT 800s– at its factory in Barcelona's Zona Franca. It was exported in large numbers to countries such as Argentina, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Finland, Poland, and Portugal and it was the best-selling car in Spain between 1958 and 1968.
Our little car, which has just arrived is a SEAT 600E - The third-series 600 E (1969–1973) which has conventional doors, bigger headlamps, a more robust door locking system, the ignition lock next to the steering wheel with anti-theft system, a different grille, a storage tray, a central ashtray, new upholstery, and a luminous water temperature indicator and most importantly, it has the uprated 767cc 2 cylinder Engine and a 4 Speed Gearbox. It was first registered in Alicante, Spain on 30th June 1970 only had 2 owners during its first 41 years before being purchased by our client in 2011.
His account of the car and history is as follows:
"We moved to Spain in 2005 set up a party /bakery/ceramic cafe in Sotogrande near Gibraltar and I bought the Seat 600 in 2011 from a Spanish friend who’d owned the car for 20 years and it was originally registered in Alicante . I had plans to launch a photo booth for use at parties and corporate events and this would integrate well with my existing party business and the SEAT also fitted the bill perfectly, so I bought it!
The car had been used every day but the body and interior were tatty, so I sent it to a nearby body shop, Premier Body Shop in Estepona, and they stripped the car and repainted it Old English Cream - it was originally Red. Also, a well known local trimmer was engaged and he re-upholstered the seats, fitted new carpets, door cards and a new headlining. This entire process took 6 months and cost in excess of €12,000.
Many new parts were obtained and these were readily available from several EU/UK based suppliers at very reasonable prices too. The list of new parts is quite lengthy, but here’s some examples : New Headlights, chrome headlight surrounds, front & rear bumpers, new wheels & chrome SEAT hub Caps, new tyres, chrome exterior door trims, SEAT badges, interior grab handles, aerial, indicator lenses, rear brake/stop/indicator & lenses, side indicators & lenses and a lot more!
We sold the business in 2014 and returned to the UK and shipped the SEAT back to England and it was officially imported and registered here on 1st June 2014 with the age related number plate: HDS 710H.
This car has never seen rain and has always been garaged too. It’s been cherished and has given us great pleasure and fun too as it’s a very usable classic car, and it creates great interest wherever we are! "
Full details and photographs to follow shortly.
Upon sale the car will receive a pre-sales service and a new MOT (although exempt) and it will come with our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty which can be upgraded and extended at additional cost if required.
