About this Porsche 911
Regarded as one of the purest of all Porsche 911's, the 911L SWB model was only produced for one year in 1968 and it is said that only 499 cars were built in this specification.
The ‘L’ designation for ‘Lux' was essentially the European ‘S’ model but fitted with an 'Air-Pump on the engine' to meet the USA emission regulations. It featured the 1991cc flat-six engine producing 130bhp and had a top speed of 131mph. At the time, it was the most expensive Porsche on the American market but it became an immediate success for Porsche and is now deemed a very collectible model for being a 'one-year-only' production model.
According to the Porsche Cars GB 'Letter of Origin', this beautiful and very rare Porsche 911L 2.0 Short Wheel Base (852 SWB) car - VIN No: 11805312 and Engine No: 3281019 is a 'matching numbers' car and was built at Porsche's Zuffenhausen works on 9th April 1968 and was originally finished in Burgundy Red with a black leatherette interior. It was delivered new to its first owner in Oakland, California and first registered with the plate 138 NNN on 25th June 1968 and it is believed to have still been a one owner car when it was purchased in 2000 and imported to the UK by it first English owner who lived in Putney, South West London.
The car was a completely rust-free example as you would expect from California and he had the car repainted in 2001 and the colour changed from its original Burgundy Red to the lovely period 1960's Porsche Silver Metallic. It retains its original specification Black Leatherette seats, Black carpets, all original instruments, original Steering wheel, 1991cc Engine, 5 Speed Manual Gearbox, Tinted Glass and an electric factory Sun Roof which is exceptionally rare, as very few cars had this option.
It is fitted with a Bluapunkt Orlando Radio/CD/MP3 player, a Thatcham Cat 1 Alarm/Immobiliser and its original Fuchs Alloy Wheels with Pirelli P6000 Tyres.
It was registered here on 1st November 2000 and has received much restoration work over the years and has been sold by us twice before with the last sale to the current owner in May 2007. During his 14 years of ownership he has spent a not inconsiderable amount of money on the car including a £10,000 high quality repaint in 2017 by a renowned specialist.
The interior trim is very much original apart from the front seats which have had new covers fitted and the Engine was rebuilt by Porsche specialist No5 Garage in October 2006 @ 74,300 miles with only 7,235 miles covered since and the Gearbox was also rebuilt by Porsche specialist Francis Tuthill in 2008.
During the current ownership it has been regularly serviced by Porsche specialists Autofarm, Francis Tuthill and Cridfords and it has now covered a believed genuine 81,550 miles from new, although we are unable to confirm this. It is in exceptionally nice condition throughout and drives beautifully and has no oil leaks or faults that we know of.
It comes with a huge and substantial history file and a ring binder full of invoices, Porsche Letters of Origin and specifications, all MOT certificates, its original Drivers Handbook, Thatcham Alarm certificate and lots of other information including details and photo's of the car by its American owner prior to it leaving California in 2000.
Upon sale the car will be given a pre-sales service and a new MOT (although exempt) and it will come with our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty which can be upgraded and extended at additional cost if required.
This is a chance to buy a beautiful and one of only 499 short-wheelbase 911's built from the very beginning of the legendary Porsche 911 range and it has been priced extremely competitively to sell.
