About this Porsche 911
2002 PORSCHE 911 (996) TURBO TIPTRONIC S – 72,000 MILES | FULL PORSCHE & SPECIALIST SERVICE HISTORY
The introduction of the Porsche 996 marked a new era for the 911. The 911 Turbo is truly the stuff of legend, offering genuine supercar performance in a compact and practical package. In its early versions it was infamous for its unforgiving handling, but the 996 version that appeared in 2000 was a different sort of animal. With four-wheel drive, a water-cooled engine, a smooth new body-shell and radically updated cabin, it was a thoroughly sophisticated, all-weather, all-road supercar and although it went out of production in 2005, in real terms it’s still as quick as anything on the road.
The 996 generation was a particular milestone in being the first water-cooled 911, water cooling allowing an engine redesign that included four valves per cylinder, which achieved higher power outputs and much better fuel economy. But we need to clear one thing up immediately. Although the Turbo is water-cooled it’s not the same engine that’s in the regular 996's. The turbo engine can trace its ancestry back to the old air-cooled units and is directly related not only to the 996 GT3 but also the GT1 racer (3.2 litres and 600bhp!). The other 996 engines were a completely different design and had gasket and IMS bearing problems that could lead to catastrophic failures, but not so the Turbo. This engine is very strong and can be tuned up to well over 500bhp if the fancy takes you.
Featuring a completely new platform, a sleeker and more aerodynamic body, and the now-iconic 'fried egg' headlamps, the 996 Turbo was the ultimate evolution of the model featuring the wonderful 3.6-litre Twin-Turbo "Mezger" flat-six engine and producing close to 420 bhp @ 6,000 RPM with a 0-60 mph in around 4 seconds and with a top speed of 190mph. Fuel economy is good for such a rapid car – high-20's on a gentle run is not unheard of, but most owners average around 20mpg. So that’s the 996 Turbo, the sensible and very useable supercar!Â
Purchased new from Penders Porsche Centre in Liège, Belgium, this car was collected from Belgium by its first owner from London and was registered here on 1st April 2002. It is finished in Basalt Black Metallic with full Black Leather interior with Porsche Crest embossed seats and it’s exceptionally well-specified with the following: 5 Speed Tiptronic S Gearbox, 18” Turbo Alloy Wheels, Electric & heated memory seats, Electric sunroof, Xenon headlights, Automatic climate control, Bose sound system (CD + Cassette), Rain sensor wipers, Rear screen wiper, Porsche alarm & immobiliser, Tracker system and comes with its original Porsche tools, air-compressor, space-saver spare wheel, trickle charger & fitted external car cover. The List price of this car when new was £101,549.
It has had 7 previous owners from new, which is not very many for a 24 year old Porsche, as the average ownership of most 911's is only 2/3 years, but this car has been in the careful ownership of a Company Director since 2015 and it has now covered a genuine 72,095 miles from new. This is supported by 12 service stamps – all from Porsche main dealers and respected specialists, and its clear on all HPi Registers including the National Mileage Register and has a full MOT History from new.
It has been very well maintained and was last serviced by Porsche specialist No.5 Garage @ 70,063 miles and it was MOT’d on 16th February 2026 with No Advisories. It has had new tyres in the last couple of years and needs nothing to our knowledge, but upon sale, the car will be receive a full pre-sales checkover and lubrication service and come with a 6-month mechanical warranty which can be extended and upgraded at additional cost if required.
It comes with its Porsche leather wallet, all books and manuals plus lots of invoices, MOT certificates and a full ownership history. The current private registration number OO02 RBO can come with the car subject to negotiation, otherwise it will revert to its original plate LG02 TUJ. It is also ULEZ compliant.
These 996 Turbos remain one of the finest all-weather performance cars ever made – blisteringly quick, beautifully engineered, and still exceptional value compared to some earlier air-cooled cars or later 911 Turbo's. The Mezger engine is mega reliable with no known issues and deemed to be one of the best engines Porsche have produced capable of covering mega miles with only regular servicing. It’s also a fantastically appealing second-hand buy according to EVO magazine, and this car is in our opinion very sensibly priced for an appreciating asset!
