About this Alfa Romeo Giulia
With Pininfarina styling, Italian flair and a responsive 1.6-litre engine, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider has all the hallmarks of a fantastic sports car.
Introduced in 1962, the Giulia Spider was a development of the earlier Giulietta Spider, with a new, enlarged 1.6-litre engine in place of the original 1.3-litre offering, bringing increased torque and power across the rev range. Aesthetically, very little changed from the Giulietta with the only notable difference being the inclusion of a small bulge on the bonnet in order to clear the larger 1.6-litre engine.
This beautiful LHD Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Spider (101.23) - Chassis No: AR373727 and Engine No: AR0011204979 is a 'Matching Numbers' car and was built in Italy on 18th October 1962 and delivered new to Frankfurt in Germany on 20th October 1962. Unfortunately, little is known of it early life in Germany, but we are told that the German owner emigrated to South Africa in the late 1970's and took the car with him to Johannesburg. He kept the car until 2012 when it was sold for restoration to a car collector in Johannesburg and he commissioned an Alfa Romeo specialist in Cape Town to carry out a comprehensive restoration of the car and the colour was changed from its original Blue to Rosso Red. Any inspection of the car will reveal just how exceptional this car is and it is pretty much in 'Concours' condition throughout and has only covered 4,074 miles since completion of the restoration approximately 5 years ago.
We purchased the car from the owner in Johannesburg in June and imported it to England and it has just been UK registered with the age related number plate XMW 418A. This really is a fantastic car to drive and will surely be a great investment for the future as well as being a car that can be driven and enjoyed and as the car was previously registered in Germany from new, it will be able to go back to Europe with no duty/vat to be paid.
The car was MOT'd on 8th February 2023 with No Advisories and upon sale, the car will be given a pre-sales checkover and come with our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty.
NB: According to the Guide for the Identification of Alfa Romeo Cars by Maurizio Tabucchi, the AR00112 engines were common to both the Giulia 1600 Sprint (101.12) and the Giulia 1600 Spider (101.23) both LHD & RHD and also fitted in the 4R Zagato.
