About this Alfa Romeo 1750 Spider Veloce
Alfa Romeo’s pretty little Duetto (Boat-Tail) Spider first appeared at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1966 and was simply launched with the name 'Spider 1600'.
It was based on the highly successful 105-series chassis which it shared with the Giulia Coupe and Saloon and it also shared Giulia mechanicals including their wonderful Twin Cam 4 Cylinder Engine, Independent front and solid axle rear Suspension and it was one of the first sports cars to incorporate front and rear crumple zones. Italian's routinely call the long-running Alfa Romeo Spider (made in four series between 1966 and 1993) 'Duetto' (Duet) despite this word never appearing anywhere on either the car or the related promotional material.
As successor to the Giulia Spider, the new Duetto was the last project that the company’s founder Battista Pininfarina had a personal hand in, and he was rightfully very proud of the results. The Spider remained in production for almost three decades and with the last Spider of that series being manufactured in April 1993. It was also the last rear wheel drive Alfa Romeo before the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione was introduced in 2007.
According to the Alfa Romeo Museum, this fully restored RHD 1750 Spider Veloce (105.58) Chassis No: AR1470099 and Engine No: AR0054813743 is one of only 601 original RHD cars produced and it was built in Italy on 15th March 1968 and delivered to Johannesburg, South Africa on 13th September 1968 and many enthusiasts regard the ‘1750’ Duetto as the most desirable variant from its 27 year production run. Finished in Ivory White with a Black interior, Cream carpets and a Black Mohair Soft Top, it was the subject of a complete restoration to near show condition a couple of years ago by an Alfa specialist in Cape Town. It has all correct specifications for the year, but now sitting on a set of 14” Momo Alloy Wheels with new Michelin Energy 195/70/14 Tyres. This car really is in exceptional condition throughout and could very easily be a ‘show car’ if required. Mechanically it is excellent having had a full engine and gearbox rebuild and it drives beautifully.
The car is now UK registered and it now wears the age-related numberplate PFJ 416G and is ready to go!
Upon sale, the car will come with our own customer care package including our HPI/provenance Check, 55-point pre-delivery inspection, new MOT and our own 6 months mechanical breakdown Parts & Labour Warranty which can be upgraded and extended at additional cost if required.
Car on display at our showrooms in Mortlake, SW London.
