Triumph TR6 1971 (K) Burgundy
According to the BMIHT Heritage Certificate, this LHD 1971 Triumph TR6 - Chassis No: CC/67474-L was built on 13th July 1971 and was registered on 1st August 1971 with the Coventry registration mark AHP 307K as a Personal Export Delivery before being despatched on 10th September 1971 to British Leyland Motors in Newark, New Jersey, USA.
When the car was built, it was finished in Damson with a Black interior and Black Soft Top and the following factory options are shown on the Heritage Certificate: Heater, Laminated Windscreen, Black Tonneau Cover, USA/Canada specification lights, 185 x 15 Goodyear Tyres, Anti-Smog Engine, Jack, Tool Kit Roll and Spare Wheel.
The car was registered in the USA in 1971 with the Californian number 187 VML, but nothing is known of its early history in the USA and it was sold by its owner in Rialto, California in April 1990 to dealer Burnells of Rothwell, West Yorkshire and imported to the UK.
The car had never been re-registered here since it arrived from the USA and we have now registered it back on its original Coventry number plate AHP 307K. We are unsure as to what work has been carried out on the car over the last 30 years, but its original USA spec Engine and Gearbox were removed and replaced with a 'CR' prefix 125 bhp Fuel injected Engine and Overdrive Gearbox. It also has some very rare 7" Wolfrace Alloy Wheels and has been repainted in a Burgundy metallic which we guess was carried out in the USA.
The mileage on the speedometer is showing 87,933 which could be its original mileage from new (not on this engine), but we are unable to confirm this without its early history from the USA of course.
We have just re-commissioned the car after it having been in storage for many years and have fitted a brand new Black Vinyl Soft Top, Mazda MX5 Seats (the original Triumph seats will come with the car if required), new rear Brake Drums, shoes and wheel cylinders, 4 x new Yokohama 195 x 65 x 15 Tyres, new Fi Metering unit, new Fuel Filter, Fuel pump, Prop-shaft UJ's, Crankshaft thrust washers, new Brake Master Cylinder + lots more and it has just been given a full service by Triumph TR specialist Enginuity. In total, almost £3,000 has been spent recommissioning the car.
This is a very nice example which really drives beautifully and it can only really be criticised for a few paint blemishes and bubbles in a couple of places and some pitting on the rear chrome bumper, but overall it is very presentable.
Being a LHD car it will be perfect for some continental touring when we are allowed to go or of course ideal for a European buyer.
The car has a new MOT (although exempt) and upon sale it will come with our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty which can be upgraded and extended at additional cost if required.
