Triumph TR5 Pi 1968 (F) Yellow
Without doubt the most collectable Triumph TR is the short-lived TR5 Pi which was a happy accident resulting in Triumph's inability to have all the tooling in place for the new Triumph TR6 body. Combining the pretty TR4 body with the lusty 150bhp 2.5 litre fuel injected six cylinder engine for just one year, it created what for many is the ultimate and most desirable Triumph TR ever built.
The combination of their low production numbers, just 1161 UK RHD models made and their high desirability make the UK RHD TR5 Pi a pretty difficult car to find, but we have just managed to acquire this lovely example.
This stunning example - Chassis no: CP610-O is an original UK RHD 'matching numbers' car and according the Heritage Certificate it was built on 5th January 1968 and despatched on 27th February 1968 to Triumph dealer Whites Garages Limited of Grimsby. The copy of the original buff log book shows that it was first registered on 1st March 1968 to a Mr John Worthington of Salford, Lancashire.
The car had a further 3 owners with the 4th owner buying the car in May 1978 and after keeping it for 34 years we sold it for him to the current owner in November 2012.
It is finished in its original colour scheme of Jasmine Yellow with Black Leather Sports Seats piped in White, Black carpets, Black Vinyl hood, original Steering Wheel, original walnut dashboard, original 2.5 Litre Fi Engine, original 4 Speed Manual Gearbox with Overdrive on 2nd, 3rd & 4th gears, Sports Exhaust System with Extractor Manifold, balanced and lightened Flywheel and Chrome Wire Wheels with Toyo 330 Tyres.
In 2013/14 he undertook a restoration of the car which included a photographed bodywork restoration and complete repaint in Jasmine Yellow, fitting of a completely new Braking System including Brake Discs and pads, Brake Shoes and wheel cylinders on the rear, new Master Cylinder and Brake Servo, new interior/carpets with Moss Leather Sports Seats, new Black vinyl Soft top, overhauled Fuel injection pump and injectors, a new Sports Exhaust system to match the existing extractor manifold, a competition Facet Fuel pump, 17 ACR Alternator upgrade, new Suspension including Shock Absorbers and Road Springs, new Chrome Wire Wheels and Toyo Tyres and culminating with the Gearbox and Overdrive being rebuilt by renowned 'Overdrive Repair Services' in Sheffield and the fitting a new Clutch in July 2018.
The car is in exceptional condition throughout and has only covered a 100 miles or so since it was completed earlier this year and it currently has 82,260 genuine miles on the clock. The car comes with a very good service history and invoices dating back to 1973 plus all invoices for the recent works and photographs of the body restoration.
This car is beautiful to drive and with the upgrades carried out, it really does fly!
A great car to enjoy as well as being a good long term investment.
