Triumph TR4 1962 (Historic Plate) Red
According to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, this lovely Triumph TR4 – Chassis No: CT/17901-L, Engine No: CT/18118-E was built in Coventry and despatched to the Standard Triumph Motor Company in Los Angeles, California on 14th December 1962.
It was first registered in Los Angeles in early 1963 with the California number plate 548 LJR which is included with the file.
This is a matching numbers car which spent the first 27 years of its life in California before it was imported back to the UK by Brown & Gammons in 1990 and the mileage covered from new at this time was only 49,000. They sold the car to a Mr C Pegler in Walsall on 21st April 1990 and he commissioned a ‘no expense spared’ rebuild of the car and conversion to RHD (finished in 1992) and the car was registered as WSU 575 in the UK on 27th Dec 1990.
In September 1996 he sold the car to a Mr Meijer in Brussels, Belgium, but he only kept the car for a couple of years before selling to the current Dutch owner in in 1998. The car was rarely used and was stored for approximately 5 years before he commissioned a complete ‘photographed’ bare metal restoration in the Netherlands in 2006 costing over £5,000.
In 2009 he brought the car over to Southern Classics in Twickenham, Middlesex for a complete mechanical rebuild including Engine with increased compression and 'unleaded' conversion, new upgraded manifold, new Stainless Steel Exhaust, Gearbox rebuild, new Overdrive unit, new electrical wiring, new Steering Column, new Steering Rack, Radiator + Kenlowe electric cooling fan, Fuel Pump, Speedometer and numerous other parts all listed on their invoices.
The total for all these works was in excess of £12,500.
The car is finished in Signal Red and has Tan Connolly Leather trim piped in Red, Tan carpets, a Black mohair Soft Top, period Radio, wooden Nardi Steering Wheel, Chrome Wire Wheels, Car Cover and Tonneau Cover.
It has always been garaged during his 16 years of ownership and has only covered 3,500 miles since the rebuild and a believed genuine 60,000 miles from new, although this cannot be proved.
Due to lack of use, the owner has brought the car back to the UK for us to sell on his behalf and it has just been re-registered as 204 UYK. The car is in exceptional condition throughout and drives beautifully.
On display at our showrooms in Mortlake.
