  • Triumph TR3 1957 (Historic Plate) Red

    DEPOSIT TAKEN - 27/10/2018
According to the Standard Motor Company Register, this exceptional Triumph TR3 - Chassis No: TS 21904 was built between 9.30am -11.00am on Thursday 12th September 1957 and was registered to a Mr Stewart Cowell in Preston, Lancashire with its current registration number 600 DWE on 15th September 1957.

The car was originally built to order for Mr Cowell in Pearl White with Vermillion Vynide trim, Black Weather equipment and Steel Wheels and it remained this way for 29 years before Mr Cowell commissioned a complete 'Nut & Bolt' rebuild of the car in 1986.

The rebuild included a colour change of the car to Signal Red with new Black vinyl trim piped in White complimenting its original Black vinyl Hood with Side screens, Black vinyl Tonneau cover and a hood frame cover. Other works included a upgraded and rebuilt Engine to 2138cc, the fitting of an Overdrive Gearbox operating on 2nd, 3rd & 4th gears, Stove Enamelled Wire Wheels, re-chroming of all exterior chrome-work, full-Harness Seat Belts and the fitting of the later TR3A rear apron incorporating Orange indicators.

Soon after the restoration of the car, it was displayed in an exhibition at the Triumph factory in Canley, Coventry and it was also featured in the book 'Triumph TR' by James Taylor. It was regularly shown at Triumph TR Register events and shows by Mr Cowell up until he sadly died in 2013 when it was transferred into his wife's name.

It was purchased by the current owner from his widow Mrs Carole Anne Cowell in February 2015 and he has spent in excess of £14,000 on the car since then including a full repaint of the exterior, the fitting of Rack & Pinion Steering, front Disc Brakes with added Brake Servo, new Brake & Clutch Master and Slave Cylinders, 'Unleaded' Cylinder Head conversion, narrow belt Pulley Conversion, new Sports 'big bore' Stainless Steel Exhaust System with wrapped Phoenix Exhaust Manifold, spin-off Oil Filter conversion, new SU H6 Carburettors with K&N Filters, new Fuel Pump, Electronic Ignition, Aluminium Radiator with Electric Cooling Fan, uprated water pump, High Torque Starter Motor, new Engine Mountings, stainless steel flexible Brake Hoses, Polybushed Suspension and Anti-Roll Bar fitted, electric Windscreen Washers, uprated Electrics for Sat Nav & mobile phone connections, Mota-Lita Wooden Steering Wheel, later TR5/6 Indicator Stork & Overdrive Switch, Fully refurbished 'Works' Hard Top, new front Spot Lights and many new seals and fittings.

Unfortunately Mrs Cowell did not pass on the original History file for the car which was promised and is now lost, so we do not know the original mileage from new, but we do know that the car has only covered 20,076 miles since its rebuild in 1986 as indicated on the speedometer and the new owner has only covered 1,200 miles during his 3 year ownership.

This car really is in exceptional throughout and drives superbly and could easily be shown at Club events if so desired.

The car will be sold with a new MOT despite not legally requiring one now and it will come with our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty that can be extended and upgraded if required. It is Road Tax exempt of course.

Additional photo's to follow upon completion of our showroom preparation.
