Fiat 500 D Trasformabile 1963 (Historic Plate) Blue Light
Fiat 500D ‘Trasformabile’ Classic / 1963 / LHD – Sympathetically Restored & Exceptional Condition! £16,995.
This highly desirable ‘D’ model (the most sort after & collectable model in the classic Nuova 500 range) has the very rare ‘suicide doors’, a new full length convertible sunshine roof - ‘trasformabile’ & ‘round speedo’ - In fact it has it all!
It’s an original LHD Trasformabile first registered in Terni, which is a delightful city in the heart of the southern part of Umbria in central Italy. This charming city has a population of approximately 111,000 & is self-styled as the City of Lovers. The Nerva River runs centrally through Terni & has been an important source of trade in eras past. In ancient times, Terni was settled in the 7th Century by Umbrian tribes & it also became a Roman stronghold with a series of defensive fortifications.
Having only had a low number of owners from new & first manufactured in 1963 at the Fiat Mirafiori plant in Turin, it has remained in the region until our purchase & its transportation to less sunny Beckenham!
Owned & driven by the current knowledgeable female owner, whom is a Fiat 500 Club Italia member, along with an interest in many Italian clubs & societies as the window stickers depict! Ranging from Associazione Nazionale Forestali through to Associazione Nazionale Carabinieri! Ohh & she was highly religious as the further window sticker’s depict, notably the Saint Christopher on the dash board & S.Valentino Patrono Di Terni E Del Fidanzati decal in the rear window.
This beautiful example came to us with the original local white on black Terni plates showing ‘TR 51016’. It has been garage kept & underwent a full sympathetic restoration in 2008/9 to near concourse standard. The Terni specialist garage that conducted the works under the owners Watchful eye, was well known to her, club approved & has done a truly splendid job.
We are told over 9,000+ Euros had been spent on the sympathetic restoration & that does not include the price of the car in the first place either! It is a testament to the quality & attention to detail on what appears a well-executed restoration.
Basically everything has been reconditioned or replaced correctly as required in a sympathetic manor. So in brief: Complete strip to bare shell, 2 new floor pans were expertly fitted. The car was also rewired by the specialist & the engine was replaced with a freshly rebuilt 110F 499cc motor to make the car more driveable in modern traffic conditions. The gear box was also fully rebuilt. The handbrake cable was changed, clutch replaced, the petrol tank was fully refurbished and flushed. The interior was also fully and expertly retimed in the original colours of red piped cream along with the complete door card set & all interior trim was renewed, including the sunroof & roof frame. All other items of interior trim were refurbished or replaced as required. The correct aluminium surrounds were machine polished, all rubber items were replaced as required. New bushes, struts, a complete brake system replacement, rebuilt starter motor & a new exhaust & brackets, in fact every mechanical item was either sympathetically refurbished or replaced.
The bumpers & brackets were replaced with Italian quality parts, the original steel wheels fully shot blasted & painted in factory silver & shod with new tyres. The car was fully painted whilst stripped to bare shell (Inside & out) at this time in the original beautiful shade of that you see today of light pastel blue. The cockpit, boot void & engine bay were also fully painted in the body colour. In fact it looks as good underneath as it does on the top, as the new floors were painted in black stone chip & the arches in the body colour.
This truly impressive example is just showing just 6,215 KMs since the sympathetic restoration!
We saw this stunning example at a Fiat 500 club event in Terni over a year ago & after a long chat with Georgina left our details. We got a call a couple of months ago & began the process of negotiation to purchase. Not an easy task but a mutually acceptable deal was finally struck & the car was transported to our shores.
Since being in our possession, we have been meticulous in our further preparation prior to offering this exceptional example to the market by undertaking the following works: Fitted a new premium mohair grey long soft top made by our associated trimmer. Fitted a new set of white wall spats & hub caps with associated bolts. New premium Varta battery, fitted a new front bumper, 1No. period correct chrome wing mirror, New front moustache, chrome wiper blades, fitted a new exhaust system. Fitted the correct D engine decal set, 2No. Sun visors, soft top hold back belt, spare tyre strap, jack straps, engine cover plate, windscreen wiper blades, premium white heat shield pad. Adjusted the steering geometry, supplied a fresh MOT and conducted a multipoint check, replaced the fuel with £25 of new super unleaded, tuned & cleaned the carb, set the timing, fitted a premium coil. Adjusted & cleaned the brakes & given the cheeky little chap a full service (plugs, fuel filter, air filter, oil etc.) just to be sure! Fitted a new boot mat & 500 Key ring. ACI club sticker, it even has fitted a period luggage rack & period picnic hamper for 4 persons. The car is on the button & ready to go & show or just enjoy…

This is one of the most honest & correctly restored 500D’s we have offered & better than my own example. It looks & feels period correct & very well restored. As the restorer had excellent Fiat 500 knowledge & understanding of the correct parts & original detailing, this fantastic example is in an exceptional state.
The car looks pretty much ‘as new’ & is no doubt as good as when it left the factory in 1964. It has been correctly restored by people who know the marquee. This is a collector’s opportunity and a superb investment and has only driven a low number of KMS since its restoration & hence this cheeky chappy is being offered for sale for the first time on our shores.

These models are ever increasing in value & are a great investment. Our Fiats come recommended by a leading authority on Fiats & parts specialists – Ricambio International Ltd. I actually have a light blue 1965 500D that makes up part of my own private collection & everybody loves it! It always puts a smile on my face, plus you don’t need to worry about the rising petrol prices – Just enjoy!
As we are a Mercedes Pagoda and R107 specialist we are always happy to part exchange one of these type of cars or indeed any classic car of excellent quality, so please don’t miss this most fastidious example of the iconic Fiat 500D. This vehicle is exceptional value, try & find another as original & tax exempt – Please remember ‘you get what you pay for’. Our cars are handpicked by a marquee expert & we turn down 8 or 9 out of every 10 cars offered. The cars we sell, are we believe the best of their type & are here to be viewed & driven in the UK. This takes the gamble out of buying a car direct from Europe sight unseen. Our stock comes fully de-registered from the country of origin with the ACI fee paid, UK MOT’d, test driven, serviced & detailed. Don’t confuse them with other cars on the internet which have had dubious restorations & are offered with a low asking price. We have had 2 clients bring such cars to us recently bought direct from Italy & both were severe MOT failures with a list of faults ranging from no reverse gear to an undercarriage that requires total replacement. You have been warned! There is always a reason why a car is being sold cheaply! Again ‘you get what you pay for’…
This vehicle is we believe the best in Europe don’t settle and ensure you view this stunning example…
More photos available upon request, PX always considered.
Can be viewed at any reasonable time by prior appointment.
We will always buy back cars we have previously sold…
Delivery by road, or packed and shipped, or air freight all possible by arrangement at excellent rates, car is ready to drive away today or be delivered to your door…
We are always keen to purchase Mercedes Benz Pagoda’s (W113) or late 300SL (R107) models, so please give us a call for a friendly chat if you are considering selling, we would love to hear from you. We also hold many parts in stock for the above models & have our own restoration facilities, where we restore these glorious old Mercedes to Stuttgart factory standards.
