  • Contemporary Classics Cobra Replica 2004 (C) Gold

    Description

The Contemporary Classic Motor Company was set up in 1978 by Peter Bayer in Mamaroneck, New York State, USA and his reproduction of the legendary Shelby Cobra 427 was regarded by many as the finest replica of the marque because of the accuracy of the bodywork, its round-tube chassis and the overall quality of the engineering and general construction.

All parts for this car were imported by the owner from America between 1995 and 2003 and it was built by him over a 10 year period with the help of American Speed Specialists in South London.

The body shell is made from premium hand-laid fiberglass which is self supported on a bonded steel sub-frame and bolted directly to the double round-tube steel chassis. The Engine was sourced by American Speed from the USA and is a Big Block Ford FE 390 unit with Iron cylinder heads and bored to 452.7 cubic inches (6997cc) and fitted with Holly double pumper 750 cfm Carburettor, Fast Road Camshaft, custom made de-restricted straight through Exhausts with Super-Trapp end caps, Jaguar ?Salisbury? rear axle with 2.88 final drive ratio, Wilwood Brakes and Servo assisted and a Ford C6 3 speed Automatic Transmission with its own radiator.

The car also has many original 1966 parts including the header tank, various brackets, Lucas lights and switches, Smith gauges, Mota-Lita steering Wheel, Seat frames and Filler Cap! It comes with a Hard Top, a Mohair Tonneau Cover, Side Screens, Wind Deflectors and Sun Shades, and the paintwork is the correct Sikkens Chrysler France 72 heavy grain Gold from the period. All invoices for the parts and a full spec sheet of the Contemporary Classic Cobra is included in the file.

The cost of building this Cobra was over £68,000 without any of the owner's labour and since it was finished in 2004 it has only covered 900 miles.
Registered in the UK as Historic status and as a 1972 Ford Convertible with the period number plate from 1965 - KMT 201C.

Having only covered 900 miles and spending much of its time in storage since 2004, it is in excellent condition throughout with only the odd scratch on the bodywork whilst in storage.

Car on display @ our showrooms in Mortlake.
