Citroen 11B Normale (Big 15) Traction Avant 1950 (Historic Plate) Black
First presented at Citroën's huge Paris showroom on 18th April 1934, the Traction Avant (Front Drive in French) was designed by André Lefèbvre and Flaminio Bertoni and was a much lighter and faster car than many of its contemporaries. A favourite of WWII Commanders, the French Resistance and later on Film Directors, it was made famous in the UK by the 1960's BBC TV series 'Maigret'.
The first cars were built in various guises from 1934 until production was suspended in June 1941 due to German occupation. After the war production resumed with the more powerful 1911cc engine in the 11B light (15) and the 11B Normale (Big 125) model which had a longer wheelbase.
The Traction Avant pioneered mass-production of three revolutionary innovations which have all been widely adopted since and still used today: front-wheel drive, four-wheel independent suspension and the use of a crash resistant unitary, monocoque body. The car was also one of the earliest mass-production adopters of rack and pinion steering.
Production eventually ended in 1957 by which time 759,111 had been manufactured.
This absolutely stunning 11B Normale (Big15) Traction Avant in fully restored car in exceptional condition throughout. It was first registered in Paris in 1950 and was imported to the UK in 1990.
The current owners purchased the car in 2003 and commenced a full restoration of the car approximately 10 years ago.
