This splendid example is the highly desirable Mk 1 Austin Mini built on 1st February 1965 & has recently been sympathetically restored by a retired Mini enthusiast. He completed the project in July 2016 & has done an amazing job, keeping the original matching numbers engine, body colour & the original beautiful tartan red vinyl interior.
This cheeky chappy is now only a 6 owner car, being originally purchased by a lady & then given to her son. It was then purchased from the son by the gentlemen enthusiast who conducted the full restoration. The mileage of 53,415 was stated as correct by the son to the restorer at point of sale, & this is deemed to be true by the original & unmolested condition of the car pre restoration - Hence only a sympathetic restoration was required. We then purchased this splendid vehicle & sold it to a client in Ascot. We then later sold it to a client in Germany (Residing just outside Stuttgart) & after over 2.5 years of happy ownership, a change in employment means we are now offering it for sale on the German owner’s behalf.
The Mini is due back in the second week of August & has been kept in a heated garage & well maintained over the last 2.5 years. It also passed the German TUV test on arrival with flying colours which is much tougher than the UK MOT test. The new owner will need to apply to the DVLA to reregister the car in the UK. It comes with the new German title, so this will be an easy task, but will take approx 3 weeks. The new owner will also need to make up the UK plates if the DVLA assign a new number. We have copies of the UK V5C & the original number plates come with the car. So fingers crossed the DVLA will assign the original number plates back to the car. We can assist with this task if required. Please note that this fantastic car is for sale on behalf of the owner & no warranty is given or implied. The Mk 1 Mini (1959-1967) was the first version of the British Motor Corporation’s Mini. It is characterised by its sliding windows, external door hinges & ‘moustache’ grille & was produced between 1959 & 1967.
When purchased in September 2015 by the retired gentlemen enthusiast, the car was found to be in a structurally excellent condition & due to its long term storage not requiring a full ground up restoration. So the decision was taken to conduct a full but sympathetic restoration, with the intent to keep the vehicle as original as possible. It is now absolutely fantastic & a testament to the quality & attention to detail on what appears a no expense spared basis.
The sympathetic programme of restoration which was photographed at key stages for the large accompanying history file completing in July 2016 was extremely diligent & included all parts being checked, reconditioned or replaced as required. So in brief: Complete strip to bare shell, the floors were found to be in excellent condition & did not require replacing. The 2 Sills were replaced along with the A panels, rear sub-frame mount panels & the boot floor rear section. This metal work was done on a spit roast & jig to a very high professional standard. The engine was removed, dismantled & a bore inspection conducted. The cylinder head was rebuilt before being reassembled with new gaskets & given 3 coats of the correct paint colour. It was also fitted with hardened seat valves & thus is now suitable for unleaded fuel. The gearbox was checked & serviced. The petrol tank was fully refurbished and flushed. The interior was also removed & professionally cleaned. A new set of carpets were fitted along with underlay including the boot. Matching red over mats finished the period look. Even the door pocket bin liners were replaced. All lights were overhauled or replaced, the headlamps being upgraded to Halogen H4, rubber items were all replaced including the door seals, window & side window seals etc. The complete brake system was overhauled & items showing wear renewed. The starter motor was rebuilt and a new exhaust fitted. A new battery was fitted along with an isolator, all consumables in the engine bay were also changed.
The bumpers & brackets were replaced along with external badges & number plates, the original steel wheels were refurbished with new premium tyres fitted. The car was fully painted whilst stripped to bare shell (Inside, outside, boot void & engine bay) at this time in the correct original period shade of Farina Grey GR-11 that you see today. The underside which is exceptional was treated to a sensible light coat of grey stone chip, which should last for another 52 years. In fact it looks as good underneath as it does on the top.
This beautiful example is eminently usable as it has its original matching numbers rebuilt Austin Mini 850cc engine with original gearbox, it drives & as good as it looks!
This truly impressive example is just showing approx. 54,500 miles now, as it has been used sparingly.
Since being in our possession the first time around, we were meticulous in our further preparation prior to offering this exceptional example to the market by undertaking the following works: Conducted a full external glass out repaint of the external paintwork. We have pictures of the car prior to our works, & this will show minor imperfections in the paintwork & some orange peel. The gentlemen enthusiast painted the car to an acceptable standard, but it was not done in an oven or to the standard of the rest of the car. With the car being of such good quality the decision was made to repaint, to get the car to where it deserves to be in terms of final finish. We also spent time on realignment of opening panels. Fitted a new starter solenoid, sports coil, heater hose, indicator stalk, fan belt, points & drivers seat diaphragm. Conducted a multipoint check, filled the tank with £25 of new super unleaded, tuned the carb, set the timing, adjusted & cleaned the brakes & given the cheeky little chap a full service just to be sure! The car is on the button & ready to go & show or just enjoy…
The vehicle comes with a lovely history file & contains: German Title, UK V5C Copy, DVLA paperwork confirming historic taxation class, Bill of sale, Details of gentleman whom did restoration, Past MOT with no advisories, Photographs of works conducted showing the detailed steps in its sympathetic restoration & our works, 40+ Specialist parts invoices, Original Driver’s Handbook, Original Motor Manuel, Haynes Manual & a GB sticker to top it off!
The car looks resplendent & is a real testament to the quality of work undertaken & drives superbly. It’s probably one of the best examples in Europe for the price asked.
